I’ve been a busy bee… I have a new Point of Sale system installed and running - which means much, much, MUCH faster sales check-outs! I’ve ordered a bunch more cool Bead Boxes (samples below) and I have new cool glass and tools enroute!
All this and*Tink will arrive on the 21st!!

There are many other styles available!!!
AND… I’ve expanded Studio Hours! The new schedule won’t be in full swing
until June 4th but I will be open Wednesday May 14th - Saturday May 17th from 12(noon) to 8:00pm (note: I will close at 7:00pm sharp if no one is in the studio).
After that the studio is essentially closed until the end of the month for Tink’s arrival, the prep for that, and a couple of other things… one being I’m going to Elton John on the 30th! YeeHaw!!
The new hours will be in effect for the full month of June and as a general rule excepting guest teacher and other special events, with the hopefully only occasional personal need for extra time.
Look for more updates as I’m working on entering my Bullseye Glass into the inventory system so I can start selling that and there will be other fun things happening at the studio this summer!
See You There and Happy Torching!
Deborah

Tips & Tricks - Beginner Class
Saturday, May 24, 2008 - 10am - 6pm (includes 1 hour lunch)
$175.00 - Price includes all class supplies - The Best Deal Possible!!!
This class is always great fun! It’s a collection of things you’d like to learn, but that doesn’t warrant a class in and of themselves. Quite often the class takes its own direction, depending on the students’ desires. Topicscan include: glass compatibility
stringer tests, Venetian glass pen techniques, hollow beads, blown ornaments, implosion pendants, using PMC on glass, blowing, using shards and making your own signature cane. It’s structured playtime at its best. Students are encouraged to connect with Tink in advance of the class to discuss topics of interest to them. This allows her to bring any special tools or supplies that might be needed. No two class sessions will be the same! Some Flameworking experience is desirable - this is a beginner level - minimum 3 hours of torch time class!
Here is a photo of glass pens… this isn’t John or Tink’s but it is what we will learn in class….
Advanced Blown “Vessels II” - Just Need “Vessels I”
Monday, May 26th, 2008 - 10am - 6pm (includes 1 hour lunch)
$245.00 - New Lower Price includes all class supplies
Take your blown vessels to the next level - and learn to make this very cool globe ornament - the little micro marbles learned in Tips and Tricks fit inside, or other goodies may inhabit this unique pendant! This class is the natural progression from the Beginning Vessels Class - it is only broken up into two classes so you have a better choice with how to spend your class attending funds. Tink said that often times this class will still have a few seats open by the time they arrive, but once the students have finished Vessels I they are clamoring to get into Vessels II
Hello All!!
The 1st “Bead Raiser” (coined by Joy McLaurin - a participant) was a smashing success and lots of fun!!
Thanks to everyone who stopped in to torch! For anyone who couldn’t make the event you can still submit donations via mail to me. I don’t want to post the mailing address on the site so please drop an email via the contact form and I’ll send you the mailing address. Remember we are accepting any hand made donations… jewelry, PMC Clay items… everything hand made in Alaska is welcome!
With your donation please include a small description of the piece and any contact info like web site address you’d like listed (probably won’t get that on eBay but can put it on the ALAB site.
I’ll place a mail in deadline of May 9th and will post here when the auction is listed.
The next event will be held in June (day not yet chosen) and will benefit the Anchorage SPCA!
Many Thanks Everyone!
Deborah
Hi All… Don’t worry… there is nothing wrong… With all of the “life” events of late I find myself behind on many things and I’m just taking some time to get caught up and do a little re-organizing.
I want to be ready for the busy summer without always feeling two steps behind. Dependent on how far I get I may continue this into the first week or two of May but I will absolutely be open again by May 12th! AND…
The "Alaska Lampworkers Unite" event will still be held on the 27th!
I have lots of ideas I’ve wanted to implement at the studio and I’ve just not had time to work on them… one being more “Open Studio” days. So, keep an eye on the “Studio News” because I will post an update on what is to come at Glass Firenze!
Of course, the first thing to happen is that “Tink Martin” will be teaching her wonderful Vessels I and II class and the Tips and Tricks class beginning May 24th! There are still seats available but Vessels I is close to full so if you’ve been hesitating now is the time to sign up.
I will be available by phone or email if you want to sign up for a class or have some questions. I have to admit… I was torn about doing this since the studio has already been closed so much lately… but I realized that I need to take this time so that I can be better prepared when things do happen so that they don’t make as big an impact on the studio, and to give myself the time to get things like a computerized inventory of glass implemented so when I make sales it isn’t so cumbersome. Now that I’ve made the decision I’m very excited! I think you’ll all be very pleased with the improvements.
I thank you for your understanding, support, and patronage and I look forward to us all spending a fabulous summer playing with glass!!
See You Soon,
Deborah
You’ve all got to check out this thread on LE… Mike Frantz is in Murano and Lauri Copeland posted pictures of her visit there! Very Cool!!

Since we couldn’t give away a free studio set-up to each of the students in the Jon and Renate class they have offered a very special deal for their Alaskan Students and would like to assist you in purchasing a studio set-up of your own at a discounted rate.
The discount will depend on what kind of set-up you need and the prices Jon and Renate can work out… this is a great opportunity!
You may reach Jon and Renate through their web site www.lbsupplys.com or from the contact information they handed out at class.
MARTA COBB!!
Congratulations Marta and thank you to everyone who participated in the Jon and Renate Hunt glass classes!! I wish I had a studio set-up for each of you…
Just in case you are kicking yourself for not buying one of the cool Zoozii presses that Amy of Zoozii’s sent for the class, I am keeping the presses for the week so anyone who’d like can stop in and purchase either the Medium+Duo or the SweetHeart Press!
Jon and Renate asked me to send a big thank you to everyone… they really enjoyed working with each of you.
We keep adding fun things to the “Tink” workshops and now included is a demonstration on how to make the caps for the Globe Pendants. The studio will provide each student - in any of the three classes - with the supplies necessary to make their own cap!
Making the Globe Pendant itself will be covered in Vessels II - and making “Micro Marbles” is covered in Tips & Tricks as they will serve many lampworking directions! All special additions by Tink just for her Alaskan Students!! To sign up for this fantastic series of classes please visit www.glassfirenze.com to use the contact form or call 726-1080!
